This renovation of one of only seven remaining single-family residences on Chicago's Lake Shore Drive is the second undertaken by HBRA Architects for this Georgian house originally designed in 1911 by Holabird and Roche. A complete interior renovation will suit the needs of a new owner and introduce programmatic and mechanical improvements including a below grade garage, additional elevator stops at the basement and roof terrace levels and complete replacement of building mechanical systems, exterior windows and doors. Exterior modifications conform to standards set for what is now a landmark district, while the design and organization of interior spaces expresses the client's interest in an eclectic range of architectural styles, reconciled with the original building through a strategy that establishes a legible relationship between the house's exterior expression and a progression of highly-finished rooms that transition in scale and detail from the public to more private spaces found on the house's upper floors.
