HBRA has been recognized for excellence in design by professional organizations across the country and in all categories of building. In addition to the seven National Honor Awards from the American Institute of Architects, the firm has received over twenty American Institute of Architects Chicago and other local Chapter Distinguished Building and Honor Awards; many technical awards including: lighting design, use of masonry in architectural detailing, and corporate campus design. In 1989, the firm received the Louis Sullivan Award for Architecture, and in 1994 the Firm of the Year Award from the American Institute of Architects, Chicago Chapter.
