Paul Newman founded The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp for children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses to provide a full outdoor experience for those who would normally be denied that opportunity because of their physical condition. He wanted to create a place “where they can have a Disneyland experience – and raise a little hell.” The environment is intended to remove campers from the challenges of their daily experience and suspend them temporarily in another world that is familiar and yet which presents an invigorating realm of possibilities. Camp buildings include dining and residence halls, recreational and sports facilities.
