This renovation of one of only seven remaining single-family residences on Chicago's Lake Shore Drive comprised a complete interior renovation, introducing programmatic and mechanical improvements including a below grade garage, additional elevator stops at the basement and roof terrace levels and complete replacement of building mechanical systems, exterior windows and doors. Exterior modifications conform to standards set for a Chicago landmark district, while the design of interior spaces expresses the client's interest in an eclectic range of architectural styles, reconciled with the original building through a strategy that establishes a legible relationship between the house's exterior expression and a progression of highly-finished rooms that transition in scale and detail from the public to more private spaces found on the house's upper floors.
